Minecraft Ruined Portal Finder

Find the nearest ruined portals in your Minecraft world from its seed. Each result is pinned on the biome map with exact coordinates — click one to jump there, copy the coordinates, or grab a ready-made /tp command. Ruined portals are common, but plenty generate buried or underwater where you'd never stumble on them.

A ruined portal near spawn is the cheapest ticket to the Nether: the chest usually carries the obsidian and flint and steel to finish the frame, and the gold loot doubles as piglin barter currency once you're through.

How to use the ruined portal finder

  1. Enter your seed — type or paste it into the seed box and press Go. Text seeds work too; they convert to numbers exactly like the in-game seed field.
  2. Match your version — pick the version your world was generated in. Structure positions change between versions, so this matters.
  3. Read the results — the nearest ruined portals appear in the panel, sorted by distance from the search point, each with exact coordinates.
  4. Jump to a result — click a result to center the map on it, then click the marker to copy its coordinates or a ready-made teleport command. Panned somewhere new? Press Search this area to look around the current view.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a ruined portal from my seed?
Enter your world seed and the finder lists the nearest ruined portals with exact coordinates, sorted by distance. Click a result to center the map on it, then click the marker to copy the coordinates or a /tp command.
Can I light a ruined portal and use it?
Yes — that's the classic speedrun move. Complete the frame with obsidian (the chest usually has some, plus flint and steel), and swap out any crying obsidian first: it glows purple but can't be part of a working portal. A few extra obsidian blocks is all it usually takes.
What loot do ruined portal chests have?
Gold-themed loot: obsidian, flint and steel, fire charges, gold nuggets and ingots, gold blocks, golden carrots, glistering melon slices, a bell, golden apples, and enchanted golden tools and armor. The golden gear can roll almost any enchantment, including treasure enchantments and curses.
Where do ruined portals generate?
Almost anywhere — every Overworld biome except the deep dark, plus the Nether. This finder maps the Overworld ones; they can sit on the surface, underground, or on the ocean floor, and about 1 in 20 is a giant variant.
How rare are ruined portals?
They're among the most common structures in the game — one generates roughly every few hundred blocks, so your nearest is usually a short walk. The trick is that buried and underwater portals are invisible from the surface, which is exactly what the exact coordinates solve.
Which versions have ruined portals, and does Bedrock work?
Ruined portals arrived in 1.16 (the Nether Update) on both editions, and the finder does both — flip the Java / Bedrock toggle above the map. Bedrock uses a different RNG than Java, so portals sit in different places for the same seed; pick your edition and the finder returns the right coordinates.
