Slime Chunk Finder
Find every slime chunk in your Minecraft world. Enter your seed above and the map highlights each slime chunk in green — computed with the exact Java Edition formula, so every marked chunk spawns slimes below Y=40 in your world. Click any chunk for its block coordinates and a ready-to-paste /tp command — the fastest way to pick the spot for a slime farm.
How to use the slime chunk finder
- Enter your seed — type or paste it into the seed box and press Go. Text seeds convert to numbers exactly like the in-game seed field; run
/seedin chat if you don't know yours. - Go to your base — type your X and Z coordinates into the jump boxes, or drag and zoom the map. Green squares are slime chunks.
- Pick a chunk — click a green chunk to see its exact block range and copy its center coordinates or a teleport command.
- Build below Y=40 — dig out a room at least 3 blocks tall inside the chunk, anywhere below Y=40. Slimes spawn there at any light level, day and night.
Slime chunks vs. swamp spawning
Slimes spawn in two places in Java Edition. Slime chunks — about 1 in 10 chunks, fixed by your seed — spawn slimes below Y=40 regardless of light level, around the clock. Swamps (including mangrove swamps) spawn slimes on the surface at night between Y=51 and Y=69 at light level 7 or below, scaling with the moon — most on a full moon, none on a new moon. A farm built in a slime chunk out-produces a swamp farm because it never waits for nightfall or the lunar cycle, which is why finding the right chunk is the first step of every slime farm.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a slime chunk?
- About 1 in 10 chunks in every Java world is a slime chunk — a 16×16-block column where slimes can spawn below Y=40 at any light level, even in a fully lit room. Which chunks they are is determined by your world seed, and this finder computes all of them with the exact in-game formula.
- How do I find slime chunks with my seed?
- Paste your seed into the seed box and press Go. Every green square on the map is a slime chunk. Click a chunk to get its exact block coordinates and a copyable /tp command, or type coordinates into the X/Z boxes to jump straight to your base.
- Why aren't slimes spawning in my slime chunk?
- Check the three usual causes: you must be below Y=40 (dig down — the surface of a slime chunk doesn't count), slimes need open space to spawn (clear out a room at least 3 blocks tall), and like other hostile mobs they don't spawn within 24 blocks of a player and count toward the hostile mob cap — so light up nearby caves to funnel spawns into your farm.
- Do slimes only spawn in slime chunks?
- No — slimes also spawn in swamp and mangrove swamp biomes at night, between Y=51 and Y=69 at light level 7 or below. Swamp spawning depends on the moon phase: most slimes spawn on a full moon and none on a new moon. Slime chunks are the only way to get reliable, all-day spawns for a farm.
- Does this slime chunk finder work for Bedrock Edition?
- This finder computes Java Edition slime chunks. Bedrock Edition uses a completely different formula that ignores the world seed — every Bedrock world has slime chunks at the same coordinates, so a Java map won't match your Bedrock world.
- Is the finder accurate for my version?
- Yes — the slime-chunk formula has been the same across Java versions, so the same seed gives the same slime chunks whether your world is on an old release or the latest one. Just make sure you're entering the seed of the world you're playing (run /seed in chat to check).
